چکیده

To examine the relationship between black hole mass and host galaxy velocity dispersion for low black hole masses, we have measured the velocity dispersions of 15 Seyfert 1 galaxies from the catalog of Greene & Ho (2004). These Seyferts were selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to have estimated black hole masses below 106 M⊙. The data are consistent with a straightforward downward extrapolation of the local MBH − σ relation, indicating that this correlation extends over a range of more than four orders of magnitude in black hole mass. The rms scatter of the sample about the extrapolated MBH −σ relation is 0.57 dex, consistent with the expected scatter of single-epoch mass estimates for Seyfert 1 galaxies. The Mbh-σ Diagram, and the Offset Nature of Barred Active Galaxies

From a sample of 50 predominantly inactive galaxies with direct supermassive black hole mass measurements, it has recently been established that barred galaxies tend to reside rightward of the Mbh-σ relation defined by non-barred galaxies. Either black holes in barred galaxies tend to be anaemic or the central velocity dispersions in these galaxies have a tendency to be elevated by the presence...

Revisiting the Black Hole Masses of Soft X-ray-selected Active Galactic Nuclei

In our previous work, using luminosity and the Hβ FWHM as surrogates for black hole mass (MBH), we compared the black hole masses of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) and broad-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (BLS1s) in a sample of soft X-ray-selected active galactic nuclei. We found that the distributions of black hole masses in the two populations are statistically different. Recent work shows t...

The Mbh −σ∗ Relation in Local Active Galaxies

We examine whether active galaxies obey the same relation between black hole mass and stellar velocity dispersion as inactive systems, using the largest published sample of velocity dispersions for active nuclei to date. The combination of 56 original measurements with objects from the literature not only increases the sample from the 15 considered previously to 88 objects, but allows us to cov...

Black hole mass and velocity dispersion of narrow line region in active galactic nuclei and narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies

Controversy regarding whether Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) follow the same black hole — galactic bulge relation as normal galaxies has been raised by Mathur et al. (2001) and Ferrarese et al. (2001). In this paper, the correlation between the black hole mass and the velocity dispersion of the narrow line region, indicated by the [OIII] line width for a heterogeneous sample of NLS1s, i...

Stellar velocity dispersion in NLS 1 galaxies ⋆

Several authors recently explored the Black-Hole mass (MBH) vs. stellar velocity dispersion (σ∗) relationship for Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). Their results are more or less in agreement and seem to indicate that NLS1s fill the region below the fit obtained by Tremaine et al. (2002), showing a range of σ∗ similar to that of Seyfert 1 galaxies, and a lower MBH . Until now the [O iii] ...
